Abstract

This is a zest of my book ‘Gandhian Humanism in Praxis’ published jointly by Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad and Rawat publication, Jaipur in 2022. The book depicts that Gandhi was a political activist with ethical humanist philosophical position. He strived for a decentralized, ethical, egalitarian and harmonious and non- violent and free world order. He led non-violent Indian independence movement, gave eighteen constructive programmes to awaken masses, established several institutions and wrote prolifically on issues.
Now, with change in socio-political contexts, Gandhian institutions and some of the constructive programmes are becoming out dated. A time has come when we will have to re interpret Gandhian humanism and give new programmes and change old institution patterns to suit 21st century issues. This praxis would include sustainable development, decentralization of political and economic institutions, establish ethical norms for politics and economics, strengthen Panchayati raj institutions, build edifice of educational institutions on four pillars-head, hand, heart and harmony.
