Digital India Initiative-Realizing Mahatma’s Vision
Keywords:
Digital,, India, Technology, Mahatma GandhiAbstract
The “Digital India Initiative,” launched in 2015, represents a transformative effort by the Indian government to establish a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. This initiative seeks to address various socio-economic challenges through technology, aiming to enhance digital infrastructure, connectivity, and literacy. This paper explores the alignment of the Digital India Initiative with Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of self-reliance, inclusive development, and transparency. By examining the core objectives of the initiative—such as improving rural connectivity, promoting egovernance, and advancing digital education—the study highlights how these modern digital strategies echo Gandhi’s principles of empowerment, equality, and simplicity in
governance. The analysis demonstrates that while the tools and methods have evolved, the fundamental ideals of empowering individuals and fostering inclusive development remain consistent with Gandhi’s vision for a just and equitable society.
