Ground water quality of Palaj village, Gandhinagar District, Gujarat was analysed between 2006 and 2015 to find out its suitability for drinking and irrigation purposes. Water samples were taken in May- 2006, October-2007 and March-2015 and analysed for pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, calcium hardness, magnesium hardness, total hardness, total alkalinity, sodium, potassium, chloride, sulphate, fluoride and nitrate contents. Results were compared with values of these parameters given by WHO for drinking purposes and United State Salinity Laboratory for irrigation purposes. Water Quality Index was also calculated to know the overall quality of water samples for drinking purposes. The statistical analysis like mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variance were also carried out. Results showed that during this period of study the quality of water continuously deteriorated from drinking and irrigation point of view. Water contains high level of fluorides which may cause negative effect on health of people of this area in long term.
