Abstract

All students learn, but not all learn in the same way. Some grasp information best by listening, while others learn better through  reading, reasoning, or discovering concepts through a hands-on experience. These different ways of learning are referred to as learning style. It is important to know how students learn and how we must teach them. The study is based upon Kolb’s
(1984) Experiential Learning Model and the accompanying Learning Style Inventory (LSI) instrument developed by researcher in Gujarati. Kolb suggested four different learning styles: Accommodator, Diverger, Assimilator, and Converger. The study attempts to explore the learning styles of the Ninth standard students with reference to their gender, social category and academic  achievement.Total sample of 587 students was selected by randomized cluster sampling technique. The data analysis was done using SPSS to test the null hypothesis. The chi-square value was also calculated. The result of the study reveals that there are significant differences in the learning styles of the Ninth standard students with reference to their academic achievement.
